~ Day 21 and Day 22 ~
Tropical Wind Storm…Icy Detours…Malfunctions…Lafayette Layover.
The truth is, these were two challenging days. Though they
also were full of scenic beauty, valuable lessons, good driving music, and seen
as well as unseen purpose.
I’m going to give the bullet point version of Tuesday and
Wednesday, for I spent almost 18 combined hours driving from South Padre Island
to Lafayette, Louisiana due to the driving conditions and detours.
Tuesday:
~ Temperature had dropped from 70 degrees to 30 degrees
~ Dangerous tropical wind storm
~ 4 hr. white-knuckled drive to Corpus Christi
~ Mute, dreadlock, homeless man at a park
~ Time to move on…
~ Still windy, sleeting rain, black ice on roads
~ Car and semi-truck accidents every 5 miles (bridges were
sheets of ice)
~ Drove very slowly with good music for 8 hours (stupid, but
protected)
~ Slept in Tumbler at a Walmart in Stafford, Texas
Wednesday:
~ Woke up and wrote
~ Power Outlet blew out, so an extra-large pack of fuses was
bought
~ Windshield wipers were replaced due to not working with
freezing rain
~ Internet went out, so spent an hour on the phone with
ATT&T lady named Emily
~ 30 min. drive on icy road drive to Houston
~ Downtown Houston was partially blocked off due to ice on
roads
~ My 2cd attempt of the Houston mission field was also a “do
not enter”
~ Went to Walmart to pray about God’s next step
~ Saw a homeless man playing a small flute
~ Went to grab a rock and some money… Dude, where’s my
wallet?
~ Thinking I left it back in Stafford, drove back to that
Walmart
~ After 20min of panic driving, remembered I had put it in
my street backpack
~ False alarm, called my dad to call off the alerted SOS
prayer warriors
~ Got on Interstate 10 to head out of Texas into Louisiana
~ The main road was closed off due to ice
~ Detour to Cleveland, TX to Beaumont, TX
~ Beautiful scenery on 105
~ Big fist pump and “Alright, Alright Alright” when crossing
into Louisiana
~ Hadn’t eaten since breakfast, so stopped at Cracker Barrel
for steak at 8pm
~ Very cool waiter named Kayne (rock and big tip)
~ Interstate 10 was blocked off again at the 17-mile Breaux
Bridge
~ 10pm Walmart hotel arrival for a Lafayette layover
~ I was exhausted and need of rest (and a wishful hug from
my mom and dad)
Detours can be frustrating.
Yet they also can be beautiful.
Look for purpose in the unplanned path.
Unshakable Peace and Purpose
